Fall choir rehearsals begin on September 11th at First United Methodist Church of Golden
Hello, singers, and Happy New Year! I hope your holidays were fun, restful, and fulfilling.
We will begin class/rehearsals next Monday, January 11th; the class from 7-7:55pm and rehearsal from 8-9pm. For anyone interested, there will be a “Second Choir” at 9 for anyone who wants to stay and socialize.
I’m hoping that this is the last semester we’ll be meeting virtually before coming together again. There will be both a choral music appreciation class and a virtual choir program again this semester.
For the class portion, we’ll explore some of the great masterworks of choral music, including Bach’s Mass in B Minor, Mozart’s Great Mass in C Minor, and the German Requiem by Brahms. We will spend 2-3 weeks on each work and delve into what makes them so popular. We may not answer that question but we’ll listen to some great music!
For the virtual choir portion, we will be performing a program called “Springtime Love”. It’s a five song story of a poet dreaming about a springtime love, loss, and consolation through art and nature. The songs are held together by a narration that will tell the story in a folk/fairy tale type of way.
1. Calme des nuits; Saint Saens (this will be in English)
2. Now is the gentle season; Morley
3. Fair Phyllis; Farmer
4. Adieu, Sweet Amaryllis; Wilbye
5. Les fleurs et des arbres; Saint Saens (this will be in English)
Music, dues information, and the zoom meeting link will be coming in the next couple of days, so be watching for those. In the meantime, I’m looking forward to connecting and making music with you!
"I am so very happy to have found the Golden Concert Choir. They could not have been more welcoming! The director, David Bell, accepted my voice as is, and has worked with me as he does with us all at whatever skill level to improve our knowledge of music and our ability to sing. If you are thinking about bringing your voice to mix with other voices to produce a sound greater than anything we can accomplish alone, please join us. You will be welcomed"
